August 27, 2013 (Charlotte, N.C.) – Southeast Anesthesiology Consultants (SAC) recently donated more than 200 toys and other items to the Ronald McDonald House to help provide extra comfort for families who stay there while their children receive treatment at nearby hospitals. “Families with a child facing a prolonged hospitalization should be able to focus on support and healing,” explains Dr. Labron Chambers, pediatric anesthesiologist with SAC.

SAC Physician Leads Care Team to Haiti

After hastily recruiting a team of nurses to accompany him to Haiti, Charlotte anesthesiologist Art McCulloch arrived Monday at Operation Double Harvest, a Christian ministry outside Port-au-Prince, where he began working with a surgeon to treat victims.

McCulloch, 61, a past president of the N.C. Medical Board, got a call Saturday from a Double Harvest volunteer who asked him to organize an anesthesiology team, said his wife, Kim McCulloch.

SAC physicians participate in Carolinas MED - 1

CarolinasMED-1_mApril 7, 2010 (CHARLOTTE, N.C.) - SAC physicians, Bernard Velardo, Art McCulloch and Joshua Miller, participate in Carolinas MED- 1 Mobile Disaster Drill at Charlotte’s International Airport.

The Carolinas MED-1 project was formally initiated in 2003 as a pilot program to fill the void involving mass casualty patient care in the field when hospital resources are not available due to proximity, damage, quarantine, or surge capacity. SAC physicians practiced providing anesthesia support for the mobile OR unit.

HealthStream Ranks SAC’s Quality 98th Percentile.


In 2010, SAC had Healthstream Research perform an independent survey of 352 physicians and surgeons who utilize our services. The physicians/surgeons represent all of the hospitals, ASCs and endoscopy centers listed in our Quantum CNS database. The survey had a 95% confidence level and a ±.16 confidence interval. In order to create benchmark scores, Healthstream compares questions asked across multiple practices allowing them to rank participating groups by percentile. The results were outstanding, showing that our anesthesiologists rank among the best in the nation in regards to availability, quality and communication.

New Physician Hotline

physician hotlineCommunication is the cornerstone of excellent patient care. In order to reaffirm our commitment to our hospital and physician partners SAC has formed a communication task force. The task force is identifying ways that we can better communicate with our peers as well as within our group. The most pressing item identified was a better way for physicians to actively reach out to SAC regarding concerns or questions about patient care or administrative items. To answer this concern SAC created a new physician hotline.

Keeter StadiumSAC of Cleveland Regional signed a four year sponsorship deal with Keeter Stadium in Shelby, NC. Keeter Stadium is known for the famous American Legion’s World Series held every August. The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is the nation’s largest veterans service organization, committed to mentoring and sponsorship of youth programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting a strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.

Stephen Houser, MDDr. Stephen Houser is the Chief of Anesthesiology for CMC-Union. He went to medical school at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and completed his anesthesiology residency at Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Hospital. Houser is board certified in Anesthesiology and has practiced at CMC-Union for 7 years. He resides in the community near the Waxhaw area. His favorite thing about working at CMC-Union is that “there is an esprit de coups here and we all treat everyone as our neighbors.”
